Daily Prompt: Tainted Love | Too dumb to be dumped, twice

There was this special girl, in my junior school, whom I met when I was 13 years old. There was something so special in her that I fell in love at the first sight. I was so smitten by her that it took me close to 2 years to gather the courage to speak up to her. But then at 15, our love story got on a roll. And soon we became one of the most popular couple of the school.

Soon junior school was over, and we had to go to different senior schools. Yet we kept seeing each other, and things continued to be pretty smooth between us. I would normally finish my school and wait for her outside her school, and we would return home together. It was in fact going so well that I never saw it coming.

And then one day, out of nowhere, she said it to me. And it was all over. She never gave me a valid reason for it. Neither there was any other guy involved. She simply said that she doesn’t see any future in our relationship and that we should no longer see each other. And despite all my attempts I couldn’t save the relationship. 11 years later, now I realise that it was probably never meant to be.

But back in those days, recently ditched in love, I looked no more than a little puppy lost in the city. In fact I looked so wretched that I even started enjoying the sympathy of all the girls of my class. One such girl was so good friend of mine that she was adamant that I should move on in life. In fact she was the one who introduced me to my next girlfriend.

She was a year younger than me, but was very pretty and sweet. In fact she was even prettier than my previous girlfriend. I still remember one occasion when I took her to a party where my ex-girlfriend was present too, and how she became jealous seeing me with my new girlfriend. Anyways, I was once again on a roll. She was deeply and passionately in love with me, so much so that I started taking things for granted.

Soon we finished senior school and started going to different colleges. True to my sun-sign – a Gemini – I was quite flirty in nature, and soon became popular among the girls of my college. Though I loved my girlfriend, yet I couldn’t resist the temptation of having casual affairs with other girls of my college. Not that I never got caught, and each time she demanded a promise to remain honest I vowed to be more discreet in future. Not that I was serious with the other girls, or slept with them. But I was 20 years old and used to enjoy female company.

She probably had no choice but to dump me. It was not until then that I understood the value of honesty in a relationship. But it was too late by then. Another boy, who used to like her a lot, took advantage of the situation and started influencing her towards himself. And before I could repent and go back to her, she was gone. I tried calling her several times, but she had already become a stranger by then.

Today, after 8 years of that incident, I am happily married to this very extraordinary and special girl – my third girlfriend (from my college) – and we also have a 4 year old cute son. My second girlfriend too is married and has a 3 months old daughter. And my first girlfriend too got married recently, in fact I was even invited to her marriage but had to give it a miss due to work. But we all get to know about each other through common friends and social network. And today, after so many years, it really feels funny and dumb to think about the whole love and dump business. But I guess I will have to accept I was too dumb to be dumped, twice.
